A WOLFS WEDDING

Techniques: Short Film. Documentary, Voice Over
Country: Algeria

Duration: 15.00 min
Year: 2025

The Kabyle region is the cultural and historical heartland of Algeria’s Berber population, a community with a distinct language and identity, though without a recognized nation of their own. Its culture has been shaped by political and cultural pressures, including Arabization policies that have intensified the importance of preserving language and tradition.

This documentary follows my personal journey into my stepfather’s family history, exploring memory, change, and daily life through the lens of my camera. Through three individuals—a traditional farmer, a youth football club founder, and a local cultural leader —the film offers a nuanced portrait of Kabyle society as it balances preservation and transformation.

Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the project reflects my evolving understanding, creating space for complexity and connection. It considers how tradition, identity, and community coexist with modern life, inviting reflection on culture and resilience.
